Trust is an important part of peer to peer car sharing. Renting your car to a stranger is like renting out your home on Airbnb and GetAway. You want to be sure your property is protected and treated well. Maven’s safety policies are designed to do just that, so let’s dive into what those policies are and how they work.
The first step of keeping people safe is to ensure the car is safe to drive. When we onboard your car we conduct a detailed safety check, and checks for any recalls. This helps ensure you are providing a safe car to your renters.
We run a driving history check on all our member applicants before they are approved to drive. A member must possess a valid U.S. state issued driver’s license that is not suspended, revoked, or restricted. Tickets are considered on a case-by-case basis. Generally if a driver has more than two at fault tickets, they are not accepted into Maven’s program. And although we accept members as young as 18 who can drive Maven owned cars, no one under 24-years-old will be permitted to rent your car.
Keyless + Location Services
Cars accepted into Maven’s peer to peer program are set up for keyless sharing. As an owner with a car on the platform, you never need meet your renters to exchange keys, like you might on Turo or other platforms. We set up your car for sharing, which means a renter with a reservation can unlock, lock, and start your car from their mobile device while in a reservation. This technology also allows us to locate a car if there’s any reason to believe it’s being misused or unreturned. We do not monitor or track your car when it’s not in a reservation.
Insurance On Us
Maven provides $1,000,000 liability policy, plus gap insurance for every reservation. Coverage also includes comprehensive collision, theft and rental car insurance. You can rest easy knowing your car is covered.
Maven has a zero-tolerance policy for smoking in your car. If a driver returns your car with evidence of smoking, you are eligible for a reimbursement of up to $50 for cleaning with an itemized receipt. In addition to a fine, members can be removed from our community for smoking.
Your renter is allotted 180 miles per 24-hour period the car is rented. If the member exceeds the mileage limit, they will be charged and you will be reimbursed at a rate of $0.42 per mile.
